John, Andrew and Emma attended AHA’s Scientific Sessions in Chicago. John gave a talk on a new mechanism regulating mitochondrial calcium uptake and Emma presented her work defining new mechanisms of membrane rupture in necrotic cell death.
BCVS 2018 - San Antonio, Texas
Dhanendra, Joanne, Jonathan and Dr. Elrod attended this years BCVS conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Joanne presented her work on MCU regulation in heart failure and Jonathan presented his work on MCUB regulation of the mitochondrial calcium uniporter channel.
Jonathan and Dhanendra both took home New Investigator Travel Awards. Congratulations to DT and Jonathan!

GRC 2018 - New London, New Hampshire
Dr. Elrod and Jonathan Lambert attended the Cardiac Regulatory Mechanisms Gordon Research Conference at Colby-Sawyer College . Dr. Elrod presented Alyssa Lombardi's recent work investigating mitochondrial calcium exchange's role in linking metabolism with the epigenome to modulate cellular differentiation. Jonathan Lambert's poster abstract was selected for an oral presentation and he presented work on how MCUB regulates the molecular composition of the mitochondrial calcium uniporter channel. The meeting was excellent with all the leaders in cardiac research attending.

Neil's Goodbye Celebration
Neil began in the lab as part of the Presidential Scholar program during his freshman year at Temple. He was a tour de force in the lab for 4+ years. To celebrate his acceptance into Rutgers Medical School we ventured out to the German beer garden, Frankford Hall, for happy hour. Congratulations Neil on your acceptance in to medical school!

Andrew performed his this thesis work at the University of Louisville where he began a tradition of watching the Derby with friends. The tradition now continues in Philly!
POOJA WINS ELIOT STELLAR AWARD
Temple University hosted the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. Postdoctoral fellow, Pooja Jadiya, presented a poster on mitochondrial calcium efflux in Alzheimer’s disease and won the Eliot Stellar Research Award for her 1st place poster. Congratulations Pooja !

ALYSSA DEFENDS THESIS
Alyssa Lombardi (MD/PhD student) defended her thesis "Mitochondrial Calcium Exchange links Metabolism with Epigenetic Changes to Control Cellular Differentiation" on April 25th. The lab celebrated her successful defense at 1 Tippling Place a speakeasy in Center City. Alyssa is now onto year three of medical school. Congratulations Alyssa!
6th Annual Temple Translational Science Symposium - ALYSSA WINS AWARD
Temple hosted it's 6th Annual Temple Translational Science Symposium. Pooja, Jonathan, Alyssa and Emma all presented their work. Alyssa won the Travel Award for her presentation on mitochondrial bioenergetic signaling in myofibroblast differentiation. Congratulations Alyssa!

Dr. Kishore and Company Awarded PPG ($11.6M IN FUNDING)
The CTM gathered to celebrate Dr. Kishore's new NHLBI PPG grant focused on exosome treatment in heart failure. Congratulations to Dr. Kishore and the rest of the Temple team (Dr's. Koch, Houser and Elrod).
Lab Outing to Nomad Pizza
To celebrate the end of summer the lab went out to Nomad Pizza on South Street for a fantastic dinner. Afterwards the lab headed to Tattooed Mom for drinks and some great games of pool.

Dr. Elrod and lab members Jonathan and Alyssa attended the AHA-BCVS conference in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Elrod participated as a judge for the New Investigator Award competition and as a panel member of a special session. Alyssa presented two abstracts, one on myofibroblast transdifferentiation and a second on a novel necrotic cell death pathway, and Jonathan presented his work on MCUB regulation of mitochondrial calcium uptake.

Dr. Elrod went to Washington D.C., to lobby on behalf of the AHA "You're the Cure on the Hill" initiative. The group lobbied to increase NIH funding and to educate Congress on the health care bill.

16th Annual Dawn Mark's Day - Alyssa wins award
Temple's Lewis Katz School of Medicine held its 16th Annual Dawn Mark's Day student research showcase. This years event featured 44 student poster exhibits and 10 oral presentations. Jonathan gave an oral presentation on MCUb regulation of mitochondrial calcium uptake and Alyssa presented on new mechanisms of myofibroblast differentiation and won 2nd place in the poster competition. Congratulations Alyssa!
