GRC 2018 - New London, New Hampshire

Dr. Elrod and Jonathan Lambert attended the Cardiac Regulatory Mechanisms Gordon Research Conference at Colby-Sawyer College . Dr. Elrod presented Alyssa Lombardi's recent work investigating mitochondrial calcium exchange's role in linking metabolism with the epigenome to modulate cellular differentiation. Jonathan Lambert's poster abstract was selected for an oral presentation and he presented work on how MCUB regulates the molecular composition of the mitochondrial calcium uniporter channel. The meeting was excellent with all the leaders in cardiac research attending.

Neil's Goodbye Celebration

Neil began in the lab as part of the Presidential Scholar program during his freshman year at Temple. He was a tour de force in the lab for 4+ years. To celebrate his acceptance into Rutgers Medical School we ventured out to the German beer garden, Frankford Hall, for happy hour. Congratulations Neil on your acceptance in to medical school!

Kentucky Derby Party

Andrew performed his this thesis work at the University of Louisville where he began a tradition of watching the Derby with friends. The tradition now continues in Philly!

POOJA WINS ELIOT STELLAR AWARD

Temple University hosted the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. Postdoctoral fellow, Pooja Jadiya, presented a poster on mitochondrial calcium efflux in Alzheimer’s disease and won the Eliot Stellar Research Award for her 1st place poster. Congratulations Pooja !

ALYSSA DEFENDS THESIS

Alyssa Lombardi (MD/PhD student) defended her thesis "Mitochondrial Calcium Exchange links Metabolism with Epigenetic Changes to Control Cellular Differentiation" on April 25th. The lab celebrated her successful defense at 1 Tippling Place a speakeasy in Center City. Alyssa is now onto year three of medical school. Congratulations Alyssa!

Lab Outing to Nomad Pizza

To celebrate the end of summer the lab went out to Nomad Pizza on South Street for a fantastic dinner. Afterwards the lab headed to Tattooed Mom for drinks and some great games of pool.

Dr. Elrod and lab members Jonathan and Alyssa attended the AHA-BCVS conference in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Elrod participated as a judge for the New Investigator Award competition and as a panel member of a special session. Alyssa presented two abstracts, one on myofibroblast transdifferentiation and a second on a novel necrotic cell death pathway, and Jonathan presented his work on MCUB regulation of mitochondrial calcium uptake.
